A dead body stays on main road for more than three hours

Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. 7 August 2015. A middle-aged man, died due to cardiac arrest while walking on the Avvai Nagar Main Road, was not taken to hospital by the ambulance.

There was no identity proof on the person. The people near the incident called 108 for an ambulance.

The man was finally identified by his daughters who were passing via Avvai Nagar Main Road. Since there was no sign of ambulance yet they called Apollo Clinic.

The first ambulance reached around 2 p.m. followed by Apollo Clinic around 2:30 p.m. The ambulances declared the person dead and eventually left the site.

Finally, an auto driver helped them carry the dead body to their home in Avvai Nagar around 4 p.m.

Bharti Dasan, Head of the Emergency Call Center (108) said the ambulance needs a clearance from the designated doctor before they can take a dead body to the hospital and as of now there is no provision to take dead bodies to the hospital in an ambulance.

He added a mortuary van service (155377) deals with such cases, in the presence of the police or a FIR.
